Aims

Equality Mentoring for Black Women targets the self empowerment and self-realization (potential and professional abilities) of black women, assisting them in establishing and promoting contacts to relevant in-house networks and further education and training institutions, et cetera, as well as assisting them to gain an insight into the established structures of enterprises. Providing access to (in) formal knowledge and professional support as well as increasing and developing the existing aptitudes and proficiency of black women are main goals of Equality mentoring.

Activities

Self empowerment of black female immigrants against exclusion in the labour market through establishment of strategic contacts and setting up networks The Black Women Community is a self-organization of black female immigrants, as such it wishes to use the large and diversified scope of abilities and proficiency of its members to promote and support the self-confidence building, self-determination and participation of black women in all sectors, with the common goal of achieving empowerment for black women in Austria.

Black female immigrants represent a very special group of people in the Austrian society, who have to fight even harder to establish themselves in the labour market as employees or entrepreneurs. Equality Mentoring provides black women (Mentees) necessary tools for acquiring informal knowledge and skills from experienced women (mentors) from different sectors. Equality Mentoring is a very useful tool to support Mentees in the achievement of self empowerment and self-realization.

The first step constitutes the collection personal data of Mentees (educational background, profession, current professional situation and preferred choice of job or career so as to compile their profile, taking into consideration their exact needs. According to the profile and needs of each Mentee, an adequate mentor will be selected, who will not only assist the Mentee on the preparation of the mentoring procedures and working strategies but will also among other things facilitate contacts and access to in-house structures and networks within her institution.
